If you’re gonna be having
sex, then wearing a condom is a bit of a no-brainer really, isn’t it? Do
it without one, and chances are that not only does pregnancy become a
likely possibility, but so does the risk of picking up an STI.
OK, so you might use some other form of contraception that might prevent
you getting pregnant, but, since young people are most at risk of
sexually transmitted infections, it’s still best to wear a condom to
prevent getting anything nasty. All this should go without saying, and
if you’re clued up, you’ll probably know all that anyway. Yet what you
might not know is that you now can now pick up free condoms by
registering for a new C Card.
What’s that then?
C Cards are the same size as a credit card and contain a five-digit
number unique to you, you can use them to get free condoms from loads of
places all over Wigan Borough.
Cool, how can I get one?
Getting your hands on one is pretty straight forward. You’ll need to go
speak with a C Card worker, who’ll ask you a few questions and have a
quick chat with you about other sexual health and relationship stuff. If
they’re happy that a C Card is right for you, then they’ll go ahead and
register you for a card.
You’ll need to be totally honest with the worker so that they can give
you the best advice and support. It may be that they feel a card isn’t
the right thing for you, but they’ll explain why and may offer to help
in another way.
Will my Mum ‘n’ Dad find out?
No-one will know that you’ve got a C Card, they’re completely
confidential. You won’t be asked for your name, but you’ll have to
provide a postcode and date of birth, don’t panic though, they won’t
send anything to your house!
Where can I get one from?
