Haigh Tri This
A healthy number of young people splashed,
ran and got on their bikes for the Haigh Hall Triathlon on Saturday
(September 29th).
Around eighty teenagers in teams of three took part in the cycling,
canoeing and orienteering event in and around the Haigh canal and
plantations.
The triathlon is organised annually by Wigan Council Children and Young
People’s Services Outdoor Education Team to give young people an
opportunity to try out new activities that they can get involved in
throughout the year.
Outdoor Education Team Manager Eric Bradbury says: “The triathlon is
very much about the taking part and it is designed so young people can
try new activities. It was really good to see lots of young people
having lots of fun at this year’s event. There were loads of smiles and
a lot of goodwill with everyone helping each other out.”
The winning teams on the day were:
Young Women Aged 11 to 16: The Flick
Young Men Aged 11 to 16: Sick Bean
Young Women Aged 17 to 21:
Young Men Aged 17 to 21: Platt Bridge ARC
Mixed 11 to 16: Renegade
Mixed 17 to 21: The Bold and the Beautiful
For further information about outdoor activities for young people in
Wigan Borough telephone Eric Bradbury on (01942) 769812.
