Youths put art in the park

Image: Astley Street Shelter PaintersAstley Street Park in Tyldesley is now a brighter place to be – thanks to Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust (WLCT) and a group of local young people.

The WLCT Parks department recently installed a new shelter for young people in the park, before providing the Wigan Council Children & Young People’s Services’ (CYPS) Area 4b youth group with funding to decorate it.

15 young people contributed to the five week art project, which was overseen by youth workers and three art students from Bolton University.

Jordan Molyneaux, 13, said: “It was top, especially the spray painting!”

CYPS youth worker Beverley Ashton said: “We’d like to thank the young people for all the hard work they put into this. This project has been a diversionary activity for young people. It has allowed them to make a positive contribution to the community in which they live and we’re delighted with the job they have done.”
