Leigh gymnasts shine at national
championships
Two Leigh lasses recently took part in a
major gymnastics competition in Birmingham.
Alice Adamson and Leah Burke represented the North West of England at
the Women’s Artistic Gymnastics National Finals in Birmingham.
The two girls competed in the Level 4 (under-9s) competition, the entry
level for elite gymnasts. The North West team finished in a very
creditable 4th place in the 15 team tournament.
Alice (who attends Leigh Church of England Primary School) and Leah (a
pupil at Leigh Sacred Heart Primary School) qualified for a place on the
North West team after both finished in the top four at the regional
championships in February.
The girls train at Robin Park Arena in Wigan as members of Wigan
Gymnastics Club working with some of the best coaches in the country.
Gymnastics Development Officer for Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust Mike
Lea said: “The girls have worked very hard. The standard across the
region is high so making the North West team for the National Finals is
a great achievement. We are very proud of them.”
Alice and Leah are now preparing for another regional competition later
in the year.
