London set for Wigan Dynamite
A Wigan dance group is heading to London to
take part in a showcase summer event.
The Dynamite Dancers, which is run by the Wigan Council Children and
Young People’s Services Area 3B Team, will appear at West End Live in
Leicester Square on June 23rd.
The group has performed at a host of events across Wigan Borough during
the past year, including Dance Fusion and Hot on the Streets, and at
venues like Wigan Town Hall and the Wigan Investment Centre.
Now the Dynamite Dancers will line up alongside star names from a host
of top West End stage shows including Dirty Dancing, The Lord of the
Rings, Chicago and Fame.

Toni Ann Sheridan, 15, from Norley, said: “It’s great we are going to
London to dance on a big stage in front of a big audience. It is
something I will remember forever.”
West End Live was held for the first time last year. The inaugural event
was hailed as a massive success, drawing comparisons with “Broadway on
Broadway” – a long standing event on New York’s cultural calendar.
The Dynamite Dancers have been given the chance to take part in the
showcase as part of an exchange project with the Darq Anjells dance
group from Notting Hill, who came to Wigan in December to perform at the
Town Hall.
The Dynamite Dancers will perform “North Meets South” at the festival, a
new piece that has been devised by their dance teacher Imani Jendai.
Wigan Children and Young People’s Services Youth Worker Suzanne Kincella
said: “The Dynamite Dancers are very accepting and supporting of each
other and I have seen the confidence and self-esteem of all of them grow
ten fold through being part of the project.
“I am very proud of the group and this piece of youth work.”
• The Dynamite Dancers practise regularly at Norley Community Centre.
The group is not taking new members at the moment, as they are in
intensive training for West End Live, but anyone aged 13 to 19 living in
the local area can join from July onwards. If you are interested please
