Gain experience in the arts

Do you fancy a career in music, art, theatre or dance?

If so, Arts About Manchester (AAM) is offering a fantastic opportunity for people aged 16 to 19 to pick up invaluable experience in the arts by recruiting trained volunteer group leaders for a new scheme called Open City.

The scheme will match up volunteers with a community group, made up of at least five people, for a six month period. During this time, volunteers will take their group on four to six visits to arts venues, such as The Palace Theatre, The Cornerhouse and The Turnpike Gallery.

Volunteers will also undergo a training session every fortnight and will attend meetings at AAM with colleagues.

AAM are looking for people who have:
• A passion for the arts
• An interest in people and the world around them
• Empathy and understanding
• A desire to improve life for others

Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust Arts Development Officer Vicky Fletcher said: “Open City will give volunteers an overview of the arts in Greater Manchester. The scheme covers the full arts spectrum and it will provide volunteers and community groups with free access to venues, festivals and events.

“The arts industry is becoming increasingly competitive so if you have ambitions to work in it you have to gain as much experience as possible. This is a great opportunity to get that all important foot in the door.”
