Activities no stroll in the park

Young people will be pushing it in the park this Easter with a number of high energy activities.

The two week programme will run at Alexandra Park in Worsley Mesnes and Kipling Park in Poolstock between Friday March 21st and Thursday April 3rd.

Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust Parks & Countryside team will put on boxercise, netball, football, dance and basketball sessions in partnership with their Sports Development colleagues.

An extra special BMX and skateboarding session will be held at Alexandra Park on Friday March 28th, which will include a demonstration from local BMX professional Chris Mahoney.

All the activities are free and everyone aged between 11 to 18 can take part.

The Easter holiday programme has been organised as part of a year long project to get young people more active in our local parks.

Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust Parks Activity Officer Chris Fogg says: “Wigan Borough has some of the finest parks in the region. This scheme will give young people a chance to enjoy and appreciate what a wonderful resource they are.

“The activities focus on getting young people physically active and encouraging them to take part in sport regularly. It will allow young people to channel their energies in a positive way.

“Exercise is good for the body and it’s also great for the mind. These activities will give young people something interesting to do and that can only be of benefit to our local communities.”
