A hit year for Lowton Youth Club

Lowton Youth Club celebrated another fantastic year when it held its 2008 AGM last week.

Wigan councillors Cllr Ian Franzen and Dr Cllr Christine Cottam presented certificates to members recognising a number of achievements.

Beth Tilburn from Clubs for Young People also presented a £250 cheque to the club for winning a national mural competition for youth clubs.

The young people then donated this cheque plus £250 they raised through holding a rave to local churches who are raising funds to help build two schools in the Philippines.

A ballot was held during the evening to elect a new committee of young people to run the club in the year ahead.

The youth club samba band “Samba Magic”, who recently performed on BBC1 TV, closed the event with a drumming session.

Leanne Carter Billington from Golborne, who attends Lowton Youth Club’s ‘Everybody Counts’ group on Tuesday evenings, said: “I enjoyed the event because I got to meet everyone who comes to the youth club.”

Lowton Youth Club is supported by Wigan Council Children and Young People’s Services (CYPS).

If you would like “Samba Magic” to deliver a workshop to your group, or for further information about Lowton Youth Club, contact CYPS youth worker Merry Macdonald on 07771 633404.
