Bands wanted for Easter Wipeout

Golborne Girls FC has been hugely successful since it was set up in 2003. Almost 100 girls are playing and training regularly with the club but that’s putting a huge demand on their limited resources.

Now team member and aspiring music promoter Daryl Bradbury, 15, is making an audacious effort to raise hundreds of pounds for her beloved club by putting on an Easter weekend musical bonanza.

Daryl said: “We struggle to get sponsorship and we are sick of bag packing! We have dedicated coaches and a number of parents give up time for the good of the club but we need money to pay for training equipment, facilities, kit, league fees and other costs.

“I love music just as much as football so we’re going to have an awesome time while raising funds for the club. I am really enjoying organising the event. It is like planning my ideal party!”

Sixteen bands (including acts from Liverpool, Preston, Blackburn, Bolton, Warrington, Wigan, Leigh and Golborne) have already signed up to compete in the Easter Wipeout fundraiser. Each band is paying a £25 entry fee and a ‘winner takes all’ format means the band that comes first will walk away with £500, while all the money made through ticket sales will be used to support Golborne Girls FC.

With such a big cash prize on offer, things are likely to get tense when the winners from day one go head-to-head with the winners of day two to decide the competition.

Daryl continued: “The competition will be decided by the audience so the atmosphere should be really electric in the latter stages. It’s going to be a great weekend of music.”

The Easter Wipeout Battle of the Bands will be held on Friday April 6th (2.30pm to 10pm) and on Saturday April 7th (2.30pm to 11pm) at Golborne Sports and Social Club. Tickets cost £5 per day and can be purchased at Alan’s (Wigan), Blowfish (Wigan), 121 Music (Leigh), The Hockey Stop (Leigh), Cannings Game Shop (Leigh) and Golborne Sports & Social Club.

Four more bands are needed to complete the Easter Wipeout line-up and rock DJs are wanted to play between the live acts. The closing date for entries is March 16th. To register your interest or for further information email easterwipeout@hotmail.com
