More
and more services and organisations in Wigan Borough are committed to
respecting the views, opinions and contributions of children and young
people.
To prove so, many of them are now signing up to The Pledge, a set of
quality standards which those displaying The Pledge sign in their
buildings have promised to stick to.
The Pledge was put together by Wigan Council’s Children & Young People’s
Services (CYPS), after spending a lot of time talking to young people
about the kinds of things that are important to you when using the
Borough’s services.
Roy Pass, Manager of the Youth Participation team at CYPS said:
“We want Wigan Borough to be a place where all children and young people
are treated fairly and with respect.
“The Pledge is more than just a customer care policy. It is a
declaration to children and young people as to what they can expect from
services.”
Coming across a service that displays The Pledge means that those
involved should have had training to help them better talk to and
understand young people, provide ways for you to properly express your
opinions, views (and even complaints!) and to have them taken into
consideration and more besides.
But what exactly is The Pledge? Basically, The Pledge is a series of
promises that those services displaying the sign will make to children
and young people. These are:
• We will always be friendly, listen to you and treat you with respect.
• We will involve you in decisions we make about you
• We will help you to tell us what you think about the work we do and
how it affects you
• We will ask you for your ideas when we change the way we work or plan
to do new things
• We will expect our staff and encourage everybody to be positive about
children and young people and celebrate everything they achieve
• We will make it clear what you need to do if you feel we have got
things wrong or have broken any of these promises.
