The Gospel According To Chris Moyles

Indeed, Chris has taken time out from entertaining his millions of listeners every morning to pen a book.

Part autobiography, part irreverent, page-filling ramble, ‘The Gospel According To Chris Moyles’ is a decent, light-hearted affair that is very easy to read and, for the most part, very enjoyable.

Fans of Moyles’ breakfast shenanigans will no doubt be chuffed to find that his bold, brash and uncompromising attitude has been brought brilliantly to the page as he rants and raves about everyone from his former radio bosses to current friends and colleagues.

With some hilarious, insightful anecdotes about how he became one of the country’s best loved DJs, ‘The Gospel…’ does a great job in separating Chris Moyles, the shy, hard working Leeds lad from Chris Moyles, the loud mouthed, obnoxious bloke from the radio.

However, it’s not without its flaws.

Whilst the biographical account of how he went from sitting in his mum’s kitchen trying to win radio competitions to hosting the most successful Radio 1 Breakfast Show in years is funny, informative and actually quite sweet in parts, sadly, this is broken up by huge chunks of waffle that make for very incoherent reading.

Get through a few pages of his early years, and we’re suddenly introduced to Aled, Rachel and of course, Comedy Dave amongst others from his hit show.

And though these are quite nice and funny, they seem to be inserted at random into the book, as do sections about his encounters with celebrities and page after page of waffle about how he isn’t really an author and is struggling to nail down 70,000 words….which naturally shaves off a few thousand for him.

Many folk have also complained about how short this book is; you can easily get through it in an hour, two hours tops. Yet we’re willing to let that slide since, despite its flaws, ‘The Gospel According To Chris Moyles’ is an interesting, entertaining insight into the life of a man and his mouth.
