Arguably Pixar’s finest hour, Monsters’ Inc.
is an adorable, hilarious tale about children afraid of monsters, and
monsters equally as afraid of children!
The story centres on Sulley (voiced perfectly by John Goodman), a
fluffy, blue teddy bear like creature, who despite his rather cute
appearance is the ‘top scarer’ at Monsters Inc., an organisation that
powers the city of Monstropolis using children’s screams.
However, the big blue guy didn’t reach the top on his own, and is helped
along the way by his best mate, Mike (Billy Crystal, another perfect
casting choice), a little green ball with one eye and a short tempter.
Together, Mike and Sulley are riding a wave of success at work until a
cute little girl finds her way into Monsters Inc. HQ, and subsequently
all hell breaks loose.
Slowly but surely taking a liking to the sweet little thing
affectionately known as ‘Boo’, the duo must return her back to the human
world whilst protecting her from the over-keen Child Detection Agency
responsible stopping children contaminating monsters, and the scheming
chameleon Randall (the voice of Steve “I’m in practically every film
ever” Buscemi), who has own plans for Boo.
What ensues is a brilliantly funny, sweet, sentimental and exhilarating
ride through the colourful world of Monstropolis.
With a good deal of excitement thrown into this excellently animated
adventure, Monsters Inc. is a superb film that will tug at the heart
strings of children young and old.
*You can catch Monsters Inc on Christmas Day at 3.55pm on BBC1.
