Five tips for staying safe when joining a new club

Image: Things to Do logoThe LINC Online’s Things to Do directory lists over 150 positive activities for young people in Wigan Borough.

If you run a club, project or other regular activity for young people that we don’t already know about and that you’d like us to include in this directory, these guidelines are here to help.

Filling in the form

The new application form for submitting your info to our directory makes it easier for both you and us to get your information on the website.

It’s a simple form set out in similar fashion to the way you’ll find information laid out in the directory, with room to tell us where, when and what your activity is, along with contact information and room to include a website.

If your activity doesn’t have a website, that’s OK, but we do ask for at least one method of contacting you, be it via e-mail or telephone. This is so that young people can get in touch with you if they’d like more information about your activity, and also so that we can get in touch with you when it comes to checking our information (for more on this, see Updating your details).

We also ask you to include a contact name. You do not have to include this on the site if you don’t want to (in which case, please state on the form), but it helps us to have a specific person to contact in case we need to get in touch about your entry.

Private sector businesses

In order to ensure that we protect young people and maintain a high quality of entries in our directory, we would be grateful if new private sector businesses wishing to be included in our Things to Do directory can provide us with details of any recognisable organisations in your field that you are associated with (such as governing bodies for sports clubs etc).

If this isn’t possible, we would ask that you provide some information as to how you ensure that young people are protected at your activity.

If you’re unsure about this or require further information, please contact us using the details to the right.

Updating your details

At least once a year (usually between January and February), someone from the Youth Information Team (the team behind The LINC Online) will be in touch with you to ensure that all the information we list for your activity is accurate and up-to-date.

This helps us to maintain a high quality of information on the site and also helps you, as keeping your information up-to-date ensures that you get the best possible use from the directory.

If any of your details change before or after we’ve been in touch, we would be very grateful if you could contact us and let us know.

You can use the form if you need to make many changes, or if it’s just something simple like changing a telephone number, feel free to just e-mail us at linconline@wlct.org

How long does it take?

Whilst we will always endeavour to get your information online as quickly as possible, because of the volume of information we have on our website, adding a new activity to the directory can take anywhere between one and two weeks from the date we receive your form.
