Recently
signed to newly formed indie label Dead Planet Records and having
already clocked up support slots with the likes of The Strokes and the
Raconteurs, not to mention spots on festivals such as 02 Wireless and
Bestival, London-based rockers, Intervurt, could soon be on their way to
a mainstream radio station near you.
Whilst their new EP may sound slightly familiar in parts, in Intervurt’s
case, this is no bad thing.
Through the likes of title track ‘Translucent’, a gliding, dark cloud of
melody and madness, or the driving, pulsating ‘Suffering’, it seems the
band have tapped into a formula that works for many of the big players
in the British music scene whilst resisting the urge to follow it
by-the-book and retaining their own individual style and sound.
What that sound entails is fuzzy, brooding indie rock with slithering
bass rumbling against cascading keyboards that whisper gently in the
background.
Together, they create a dark, smooth canvas onto which slicing guitars
are painted with precision and a gentle sense of melody can hide under
tortured, impassioned vocals.
Sounding at times like Alt-Rock overloads, Muse, at their most haunting
and brooding, Intervurt are a band who manage to be at once both
delicate and destructive, brash and beautiful and who, if this
fascinating EP is anything to go by, may well become on of the biggest
players in the British music scene.
In a nutshell: Warm and fuzzy indie-electro rock, the perfect soundtrack
for driving down an empty road late a night.
