Have your say!Other Ways to Have Your Say

Is there something going on in your area that needs sorting out? Transport, the environment, your education? Whatever it is, if you feel like something could, and should, be done about it, then there are other ways to get your views heard besides your school council.

Here’s just a few of them:

Young People’s Councils
If you’re interested in providing a voice for young people on issues within your local community, why not head along to your local young people’s council? To get involved, check out our handy table below and just get in touch with the relevant person for your area. Alternatively you can send an email to us at linconline@wlct.org and somebody will get back to you with more information.

Townships
Wigan Borough’s Township Programme has been set up to make it easier for residents to get involved in planning the future of their communities. The Borough has been divided into ten Township areas, each with their own Township Manager and Township coordinator who are working to manage the way in which public services are delivered locally and to encourage improvements where and when they are needed. Each of the ten townships has a Township Forum - the Forums act as a go-between for the people delivering local services and the communities who use them. If you’d like to find out more about your local township, check out the PDF below, which has details of all the Townships and the staff responsible for them.

Local Councillors
The Metropolitan Borough of Wigan is split up into 25 little areas, known as ‘wards’. In each ward, there are three councillors, elected by the nine or ten thousand registered voters in that ward. All the councillors in Wigan Borough hold ‘surgeries’, which doesn’t mean that they’ll be able to sort your gammy leg out or prescribe something for that dodgy rash, but rather that they’ll be on hand for you to pop in for a chat with them about any local issues you feel need discussing. Wigan Council’s website has a full list of all the councillors in the borough, to find out who your closest councillor is and when they hold surgeries, visit http://rylands.wiganmbc.gov.uk/councillordetails
