The
Greater Manchester Youth Games return this summer.
Whilst the word ‘Games’ probably stirs up images of the Olympics or
pretty much any other event where folk don their PE kit and work up a
bit of a sweat, there’s much more to the Youth Games than you might
imagine.
If you’re into art or music, then there’s things you can get involved in
too. Just check out these two for example:
Battle of the Bands
In a band? Aged between 11-19? Get out your Marshall, tune up the Fender
and head to the Greater Manchester Youth Games to do battle with bands
from all the 10 boroughs of Greater Manchester: Bolton, Bury,
Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Salford Stockport, Tameside, Trafford and
Wigan.
Bands can consist of two to six members, and the final deadline for
entries is June 18th. Full details of where to send your applications
can be found on the application form, which you can download below.

Cultural Heroes Art Competition
Who inspires you? A famous superstar? A friend? Someone from history?
Whoever it is, why not craft an artistic ode to your chosen hero by
designing a postcard to represent Wigan Borough?
Designs can be based on any person, alive or, well, not-so-alive, who
you think deserves to be called a hero.
How do you do this? Easy. Download the following form, fill it in with
your design and bung it off in the post. Deadline for this competition
is Wednesday June 25th.
