Charlie Simpson has big eyebrows and used to
be in Busted. Right, with those two seemingly obligatory Fightstar
tidbits out of the way, let’s talk about this fantastically huge album.
Fightstar are set to become monsters of rock, breaking the boundaries of
the screamo territory they’ve been thrown in to, and setting off for
world wide fame and glory.
And with their colossal debut, Grand Unification in their arsenal,
Charlie & Co. look set to do just that.
Make no mistake about it, everything about this album is massive.
From the swooping, crunching riffs, visceral, melancholy screams and
sheer abundance of energy and attitude on display, right up to the
attention given to this band by rock critics everywhere, all of them
questioning whether the former pop star can cut it in the cut-throat,
macho world of hard rock.
The answer is a resounding yes. Grand Unification is a finely crafted
piece of work, wreaking havoc on everything in its path, non-believers
included, and is set to stand the test of time as one of the greatest
British rock albums of our generation.
