For some, August usually means sunshine, holidays, and not having to
worry about education. For many others, it means an end to the long wait
for those oft-dreaded exam results.
Whether you’re awaiting news on your GCSEs, AS or A-Levels, the build up
to results day can be filled with a host of ‘What Ifs’.
What if I don’t get the grades I need to go to college? What if I get
better grades than expected, will that Uni who turned me down consider
me? What if I’d really much rather just get a job?
If you’re pondering any such questions, you’re not alone; many will be
exactly the same boat, and there’s plenty of people out there willing to
help you sail that boat to whichever shore’s right for you.
Which is why we’ve pulled together a quick list of places and people you
can turn to if you’re not sure what do to now you’ve got those grades.
Radio 1 Surgery
Didn’t we say you’re not alone? Even Radio 1 DJs such as Scott Mills,
Greg James and Nick Grimshaw are holding out for the results of the GCSE
maths exam they took a while back.
So it’s probably a good job that Radio 1, BBC Switch and Radio 1 Xtra
have set up their own way of offering some help and support.
Check out their Surgery site, to hear stories from a host of DJs about
when they had to open that dreaded envelope, get some advice and more.
You can view the site at
www.bbc.co.uk/switch/surgery/advice
Or, you can call their dedicated results helpline on: 0808 100 8000.
Calls to this number are free from a landline, but will cost from
mobiles.
Connexions
Less glamorous, but much closer to home and thus easier to access, you
can always head to your nearest Connexions centre.
If you’re in the Wigan area, there’s a Connexions centre on
Standishgate, if live closer towards Leigh, there’s another one at the
top end of Bradshaw gate.
If you need to discuss anything about your exam results, or just
generally need some advice or info on anything just pop in.
Alternatively, you can check them out online at
www.connexions-wigan.org.uk
Call the Leigh centre on 01942 705800 or the Wigan centre on 01942
776765
The Site
The Site, the, erm, site, dedicated to helping young people with
support, advice and guidance, has a good section on working, studying
and where to go next. Visit it at:
