Crèches HOW DO I KNOW MY CHILD WILL BE SAFE? All of the childcare providers that the Children’s Information Service hold details of are registered with the Office for Standards in Education (OFSTED). OFSTED are responsible for checking, inspecting and reviewing childcare facilities for children under the age of eight. Every childcare provider now has to meet 14 national standards relating to health and safety, equipment and the care and learning they provide. All childcare settings are inspected regularly by OFSTED; at least once every 18 – 24 months and more frequently if the Inspector finds any shortcomings. Ask the childcare provider to see a copy of their most recent inspection report. You can also view many inspection reports via the internet. Since April 2003, OFSTED has published day care provider’s inspection reports on it’s website. Childminder inspection reports have been published on the site since April 2005.
