After extensive research on performing arts provision for young people, it became clear there was a need for low cost, easy access drama classes. The Wigan Pier Youth Theatres are run on a first come basis with an inclusive ‘no audition’ policy. Each group is run in partnership with a community centre or youth agency to help support development and to limit the cost of each session, making them more accessible.

There are Youth Theatres based at Wigan Pier, Worsley Mesnes, Hindley, Platt Bridge, and Shevington. Visit performing arts for up-to-date locations and times.

Groups are open to all young people aged 12-15 years, with the Worsley Mesnes, Platt Bridge and Higher Folds groups offering additional sessions for 8-11 year olds.

The groups have all put on public performances ranging from presentations in local schools and community conferences to regional events in Manchester:

• “Crossing Boundaries 2” in association with Oldham Theatre Workshop
• Community Engagement – Big Thank You event
• Tenant Association Annual General Meeting 05
• Vivace Trust – Wigan & Leigh Hospice fundraising concert
• “A Higher View” for Words 05
• Wigan Borough Cultural Partnership Convention 05
• Greater Manchester Cultural Convention 05
• Borough Wide Road Safety Conference 05
• Coalfield Regeneration Trust Higher Folds launch event
