Wigan Pier Theatre Company
Community Theatre Projects
Wigan Pier Community Theatre: Wigan
The Community Theatre Company (CTC) was set up in March 2003 and runs an
open access policy for anyone age 16 and over. As with the Youth
Theatres, the CTC has a ‘no audition’, no cost policy and actively
encourages people to participate no matter their level of experience.
Professional theatre workers work together with the CTC to produce at
least one new full-length play a year and offer the chance for members
to take part in a range of other performances. The Company meets weekly
and undertakes a range of activities including drama games and skills,
voice, text and improvisations as well as performance rehearsals. Most
of the productions are written specifically for the Company.
Productions to date:
“Segs, Pies & Rag ‘n’ Bone” – Feb 2004
“Way to Go” – March 2005
“The Cagic Mup” – Arts for All Day – July 2005
“The Seven Deadly Sins”- April 2006
“Two”- May 2007
“ The Haunting of Hard Up Hall”- Arts for All - April 2007
“Teechers” - April 2008
Wigan Pier Community Theatre: Higher Folds
This project developed from an intergenerational production which took
stories from a local senior citizens group. This was then scripted by
local writers and performed by the local Youth Theatre under the title
“A Higher View.”
Starting in 2005 the Community Theatre embarked on a three-year plan
funded by the Coalfield Regeneration Trust and Wigan, Leisure & Culture
Trust. We will be setting up opportunities for all age groups to learn a
range of theatre disciplines culminating in performances in July 2006 &
March 2008.
This partnership project is a model we are happy to share with other
communities looking to develop similar types of projects.
