Post-16 Learning
Wigan Heritage Services encourages visits
from learners in all post-16 programmes. We can work with tutors to put
together a suitable programme of work for a variety of courses, or we
can compliment taught courses by providing talks, workshops and
facilitating visits. This is an ongoing programme and we welcome new
enquiries to extend and improve the service we offer.
We will be delivering a ten-week Local History Adult Education course at
Westleigh High School from September… see local listings for further
details after the summer.
We welcome student placements and work experience. Students from Edge
Hill College recently helped us document our Oral History collection and
research the local archive at the History Shop to expand the knowledge
we have on families who lived in the local area 100 years ago.
We also welcome post-16 learning groups to visit the History Shop and
Trencherfield Mill in Wigan where we can show you around and guide you
towards our on-site resources which include:
• Museum galleries telling the story of the local area;
• Temporary exhibitions;
• Art gallery;
• Local & Family History study area with access to local maps,
newspapers, photographs and parish records;
• Small shop selling a range of Heritage items;
• Meeting room available for hire (at commercial and society rates).
