It is a... HOT WATER BOTTLE! Used to warm the beds in Victorian homes. Working-class houses had no heating upstairs and winters were very cold. Very poor families who could not afford a hot water bottle used to heat a house brick in the oven, wrap it in a cloth, and put it in the bed to warm it before bedtime. |
