Wigan Leisure & Culture Trust, in conjunction with Art to Art at Sunshine House invite you to enter two Food and Drink Festival competitions and win £25 per competition of book vouchers:
'Food Glorious Food' Poetry Competition Write and send in a short poem or poems. Your theme is 'Wigan Food'. It could be ‘Pie Poetry’ or a dessert ditty or a hamburger haiku. (Entries must be 10 lines or less and can be entered under any of the following three age categories: Adults (18+), Young People (12-17) and Under 11s.)
'Food Glorious Food' Art Competition Send us your sketches or paintings on the theme of food. This competition is open to all. For more details and entry forms please call into any Wigan Borough Library, or Sunshine House, Scholes. Alternatively, visit www.wlct.org/wiganlibrary. The closing date for entries is 1st March in order that the Food Glorious Food Exhibition can be built and the winners can be announced during Festival week.

Sunday 4th March Squeeze into Spring! Haigh Country Park, Copperas Lane, Haigh, Wigan. 12.00pm - 3.00pm Meet at the Stables Courtyard. Enjoy the first buds of Spring here at Haigh Country Park by taking a stroll around the park with the Park Rangers followed by helping us to produce a rich natural drink using old world processes of mashing and fruit pressing. Thursday 8th March Beehive Power Wigan Central Library, Wigan Life Centre, Wigan. 11.00am There's a real "buzz" lately about the amazing health-boosting properties of honey and other hive products. Get an insight into the wonderful world of bees and honey based natural remedies, with experienced apiarist - Barbara Jones. Admission Free.
English Cheeses with local historian Richard Sivill Museum of Wigan Life, Library Street, Wigan, WN1 1NU. 6.30pm Cheese is an ancient food. The Romans are said to have brought the knowledge and skills of cheese making to this area. The Legionaries would carry with them hard cheeses such as Parmesan. This talk will look at the history and manufacture of English Cheeses particularly Lancashire Cheese and the famous Leigh Cheese. There may be some samples available to try. Saturday 10th March Cupcakes and Cartoons! Wigan Central Library, Wigan Life Centre, Wigan. Drop into the library on this Saturday to borrow a book and receive a delicious cupcake courtesy of Wigan Libraries and the marvellous Custom Cupcake Company of Warrington. As an extra treat, at 10.00am, we will be hosting a session for all ages with the amazing Etherington Brothers, who will be drawing crazy cupcake cartoons and other food related art.
